Product Details
Ever wanted to learn how to graft a new apple tree? Like to change the plum or cherry variety of your existing tree to a tastier variety? Want multiple varieties of pear on the same tree?
TD member Joey from Merched Y Berllan will be passing on the traditional orchard skill of summer bud grafting. This course is set in July (the usual bud grafting time) to give attendees the opportunity to practice & build confidence in their knife techniques to rework their own trees.
Although the session covers theory it will focus on the practical. The art of ‘bud grafting’, entails transferring a bud from a cutting from one fruit tree onto either a young rootstock – to produce a new tree – or onto the branch of an established tree to produce a ‘family tree’ (eg more than one apple variety on the same apple tree).
Location TYMHORAU WORKSHOP Number 25 Highstreet Machynlleth
Although we supply secateurs, bud grafting knives & grafting tape for these practice sessions, feel free to bring your own penknife & snips to learn on your own tools.
