Make a stool with Neil Hopkins – 12 April 2025
Spend a day crafting your own sustainable furniture and take home a stylish, hand-made stool to treasure. This beginner-friendly course introduces you to the essentials of green woodworking, including selecting and coppicing wood, mastering saw and knife skills, carving techniques, and creating mortise and tenon joints.
You’ll learn everything needed to design, assemble, and finish your stool while gaining the skills and confidence to start woodworking at home. It’s the perfect way to unwind, connect with nature, and create unique, low-impact furniture that’s both functional and beautiful.
What you will learn:
• Greenwood, sources and types for stools
• Stool principles and design
• Safe saw use and safe knife-cutting techniques
• Sawing, shaping and shaving
• Cutting tenons
• Drilling mortices
• Final stool assembly and road testing!
• Discussions about drying, finishes, design variations
Saturday 12th April 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Forge Ways, Talbontdrain, Forge, Machynlleth
All tools and materials will be provided but please bring closed-toe footwear, practical and warm clothes, and a packed lunch. Refreshments will be provided and you will always find a kettle boiling over the fire.
