Job Description
- To oversee the growing of flowers at 3 sites, the care home in Machynlleth, the polytunnel in forge and the field in Cemaes.
- To design the growing plans, arrange the potting and rearing and planting out, and oversee the growing and cutting areas
- To grow cut flowers to sell through Tymhorau shop.
- To occasionally deliver or arrange flowers when required.
- To advise line manager of tools and equipment required
- To recruit at least 2 volunteers to work in the care home garden and possibly the polytunnel
- To oversee the training of 1-2 school leavers with floristry and flower growing in July.
Fixed term contract 7 months
Starts 28thst Feb 2025 until 30th Sept 2025
18 hours at £12.50 per hour (before deductions)
Working days flexible over the week depending on jobs required
Holidays 15 days not including bank holidays
Skills required
- City of Guild Level 2 in Floristry
- Experience of working in the horticulture
- Experience of working with the elderly
- Desire to learn more about horticulture with an aim to setting up own business
- First Aid at Work qualification
Personal attributes –
Female – this is a project focusing on women
Motivated to share knowledge of floristry and horticulture with a wide range of women from 16 years to the elderly.
Ability to manage own workload and weekly hours depending on the jobs required – flower growing can require unusual hours and flexibility depending on what is growing and flowering at any one time
Must have own vehicle and be prepared to travel between the 3 sites.
